Place of Calm

Where do you find your place of calm? Is it in your car (I know many mamas who do this.)? Or, perhaps it's in your bathtub? The mountains? The ocean? Where is that one special place that comes to mind when you think of calm?

Mine is a small cabin in the northern Georgia woods. Nothing fancy. No central air or heat. When I go to sleep, it is completely dark and the sounds I hear are the crickets. The air is clean and fresh and I immediately relax when I get there. This past weekend, I was visiting with some family members for a weekend trip. Such a delightful time where we lose track of time and take life a bit slower--something I truly value. Tucked away in the Appalacian Mountains, the land brings peace and comfort to all her visitors. One of my favorite things about going is that I know I'll sleep extra hard.

Sometimes, it can be difficult bringing ourselves to a place of calm. Our world is filled with numerous scenarios to keep us anxious and restless. This is why it's so important to discover your place of calm and to go there often.

Even when I'm not traveling, I find it essential to go to my place of calm--perhaps in meditation or a walk or a day in the park with my dog. Regardless, today, may it be a priority in your day to day.

Tip of the day: Name one spot that is your place of calm. Share your answer with your best girlfriend. Swap "places of calm" and compare.
